Mitchell Wechsler, a native of New York City, is a trumpet player with a diverse professional portfolio. Mitch is a successful freelance musician, often appearing in the principal trumpet chair of the ensembles he performs with. He has performed chamber and symphonic concerts on world class stages such as Berlin Philharmonie, Millennium Park's Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago, Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami, and Carnegie Hall.
For the past two summers, Mitch has appeared with Chicago's Grant Park Music Festival Orchestra, complementing his local summer concert schedule. A busy, full-time freelancer in Southeast Michigan for the past three years, Mitch has worked with many area ensembles including Michigan Opera Theater, Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, Windsor Symphony Orchestra and Toledo Symphony Orchestra.
As a member of the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra, Mitch toured and performed in Europe, North and South America under the direction of Paavo Järvi and James Levine. In addition to a strong symphonic background, Mitch has performed and recorded in a variety of styles such as Big Band (Motor City Jazz Orchestra), musical theater (Little Shop of Horrors & Thoroughly Modern Millie with the Broadway Theater Guild Orchestra), and chamber music (Bulldog Brass Quintet, Hartwick Festival Brass Quintet). Mitch has presented recitals with the Bulldog and Hartwick Brass Quintets in cities abroad including Mexico City, Montevideo (Uruguay) and Narbonne (France).
Mitch earned trumpet performance degrees from the University of Hartford (Bachelor of Music) and Rice University (Masters of Music). Mitch's major teachers include Fred Mills, Chris Gekker, James Pandolfi and Armando Ghitalla.
