Sheila Alyce Slaughter, is a University of Detroit graduate and a talented vocalist/actress whose theatre credits include Plowshare Theatre Company's productions: Black Nativity, Ain't Misbehavin' (for which she won the Oakland Press OPIE Award for outstanding musical performance in 2001 and the Lansing Thespie Award in 2002 for best musical performance), in Living Colors, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, The Trial of One Short-sighted Woman vs. Mammy Louise and Safreeta Mae, It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues performed at the Detroit Music Hall (for which she again won the Oakland Press OPIE Award again for outstanding musical performance in 2002), How High the Moon - Sarah, Ella & Pops in which she portrayed the legendary jazz vocalist Sarah Vaughan. And, Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill where she portrayed jazz vocal legend Billie Holiday. She can be seen currently in a Majic Windows commercial and Channel 7 promotional spot. She notes that some of the biggest highlights in her career so far were not only being able to portray her favorites, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan but also at the Detroit-Ford International Jazz Festival in 2002 under the direction of the late Teddy Harris, Jr. She performed along with the late Teddy Edwards, his composition "Brazilian Skies", and also in 2003, again under the direction the late Teddy Harris, Jr. She also sang at the festival in 2001 with the R&B group, Hotsauce. Sheila can be heard as one of the hosts at Bert's Marketplace for the Thursday night jam sessions. She has also performed with the Charles Boles Trio and Urban Transport.
